Core Surfacing Specialisms
At Perimeter Driveways & Surfacing, we do things properly from the ground up. No shortcuts, no cheap materials — just beautifully finished driveways built on rock-solid foundations to ensure they look flawless for decades.
The timeless, classic choice for durability. We lay premium block paving over a commercial-grade sub-base with deep-set edge restraints. This stops the bricks from spreading or warping, ensuring your driveway easily handles daily vehicle use without shifting an inch.
Explore Block PavingFor a striking, completely seamless modern entrance. We use 100% UV-stable resin that will never fade or yellow in the sun. It creates a smooth, puddle-free, and highly durable surface that completely transforms the look of your home.
Explore Resin-BoundIdeal for larger, sweeping entrances and rural properties. By using a hidden stabilizing honeycomb grid underneath, the stones stay locked firmly in place. You get the classic, natural crunch of gravel without the annoying ruts, sinking, or migrating stones.

A driveway does not fail because of the final surface alone. It usually fails because the ground underneath was never prepared properly. Sinking, dipping, shifting, loose blocks, open joints, rutting and standing water are nearly always signs of poor sub-base construction.
If the driveway is laid over weak ground, loose topsoil or a shallow base, the surface may look acceptable at first, but it will start moving once vehicles, weather and time begin to test it.
Low-cost driveway work often cuts out the preparation: scrape the area, throw a thin layer of sand straight onto loose topsoil, lay the surface and move on. That approach is cheaper because the hard work is missing. It is also why so many driveways begin to sink, spread and break down.
Unsuitable surface material is removed so the driveway is not built on weak, unstable ground. Once the correct level is reached, the sub-grade is compacted using heavy-duty vibratory rollers to create a firmer foundation before any base material is installed.
A high-performance geotextile weed-suppression membrane wrapper is installed to separate the prepared ground from the aggregate base. This helps reduce contamination from below, supports long-term stability and limits weed growth through the driveway structure.
The driveway base is built using a minimum of 150mm of MOT Type 1 aggregate. This is machine-compacted to create a dense, load-bearing foundation that distributes vehicle loads and helps prevent sinking, dipping and movement over time.
Before the final surface is laid, the bedding layer is prepared accurately using laser-aligned sharp sand bedding and a controlled screed matrix where appropriate. This helps maintain correct falls, cleaner levels and a sharper finished driveway.
